Benjamin Sanchez, Attorney at Law
Tax Litigation
Benjamin C. Sanchez is one of the nation's most highly regarded tax attorneys, with broad experience in litigation and policy. He is usually the firm's "go-to" attorney when a
client needs to make a substantial challenge to an IRS ruling, or dispute substantive issues of the law.
Mr. Sanchez joined Tierney, Watson & Healy in 1995, after a 25-year career as a top attorney for the Internal Revenue Service. At the same time, he was appointed Acting Director of the
Master of Law in Taxation Program at Golden Gate University.
He began his legal career with the IRS's Office of Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service where he rose to Director, General Litigation Division in the Washington Headquarters and
then to Regional Counsel for the Western Region. There, he served on the Executive Committee of the State Bar of California Taxation Section and on the California Continuing Education of the
Bar.
During his IRS career, Mr. Sanchez was responsible for a number of significant and celebrated tax cases, including several that reached the U.S. Supreme Court. He successfully prosecuted
the government's largest tax case to that time - Apple Computer vs. Commissioner - involving millions of dollars of liability for transfer pricing.
Mr. Sanchez graduated from Gonzaga University Law School in 1969 (where he is currently a trustee) and New York University in 1970.
