Martin J. Tierney has been in general law practice since 1972, with particular emphasis on financial institutions and tax litigation. He has also worked extensively with
international companies doing business in the United States.
Mr. Tierney enjoys a national reputation for his handling of complex and significant corporate protests before the Franchise Tax Board and appeals before the State Board of Equalization.
Since 1982 Marty has represented such firms as Natomas Company, Lucky Stores, and General Cellular Corporation, among others.
Mr. Tierney began his career as in-house counsel for Exxon Corporation, New York and tax counsel to Bank of America and Natomas Corporation in San Francisco. At both corporations, he was
head of the international tax section.
Mr. Tierney is a member of both the California and New York State Bar Associations, and is a past Chair of the State Bar of California Taxation Section. He graduated from Hastings College
of Law in 1969, and received a LL.M. in taxation from New York University Law School in 1973.
Martin Tierney is also an owner of Taft Street Winery, a premium California vintner.
